“The Secrets to a Long Marriage and other Myths”
Opens on October 14, 2024
Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Location: The Room at Cedar Grove – 32882 Cedar Grove Road, Lewes, Delaware 19958
“The Secrets to a Long Marriage and other Myths” opens on October 14, 2024, at the Room on Cedar Grove, but Lisa Graff’s latest show sold out in early September.
“I’ve decided they don’t care what I write about as long as we are entertaining.”
The “We” is local talent singer Holly Lane and pianist John Flynn. Graff writes about her true life’s experiences and then together they choose songs to accompany the story.
Her first story “Everything I learned about life, I learned as a waitress,” starred local talent, The Gone Boys. The bus boy tells the staff that she is sleeping with him (A lie!) and she just wants money to go away to college. All three performances garnered a large audience.
“Even before the first show ended, I knew I wanted to write more shows. I heard Holly and John perform at the Henlopen Acres Beach Club on Labor Day of 2022. I didn’t know either of them. When Holly sang a song in French, her first language, I got so excited because I knew my second script could take place in college and that I had a true account about failing French. At break, I walked up to her and began babbling like a star struck groupie!
I told her I write these scripts, and then I invited her to come to the waitress show, which was opening soon at Shrimp’s restaurant. Thank goodness she came, and John and she agreed to work with me.”
“Chicago is my kind of town,” the third in the series, takes place in the windy city in 1978 where Graff studies theater at Northwestern University and pays tribute to friend Mark Locher.
“I totally changed gears for my 4th show “Mama, Won’t you Dance with me!” says Lisa. “I realized just how much of an influence my mother has had on my life, and I wanted to pay tribute to her. It was the most difficult script to write.” The Mama show sold out a third performance on September 23, 2024.
The trio have performed 15 shows together and have developed a following. Graff finds both humor and tragedy in her own experiences and loves to write the stories she thinks audiences can relate to.
“We have become a creative team, and we are so happy to have found a great venue. First Shrimpy’s restaurant closed and then Sydney’s restaurant closed. Now we have been welcomed at The Room at Cedar Grove, where we can showcase more stories. It’s so much fun!”
“The Secret to a long Marriage and other Myths,” will repeat on November 11, 2024. Tickets can be purchased on the website: Paul Kares: The Room at Cedar Grove. Dinner and the show are $35.
